Charlotte Bobcats' Search For New Coach Continues

The Charlotte Bobcats are leaving no stones unturned in their quest for a new coach. They have already conducted at least five interviews and few more still on to be done. The Bobcats are willing to wait for coaches who are in the playoffs.

Bernie Bickerstaff, Bobcats’ general manager, has confirmed that Paul Silas, the former Hornets and Cavaliers coach, Mario Elie, former NBA player and assistant coach, Lionel Hollins, Grizzlies assistant coach, Stan Van Gundy, former Heat coach, and Reggie Theus, New Mexico State coach, have been interviewed till now.

Bickerstaff said that all the interviews had gone well but the team was not ready to make any comments till the entire process was over.

The Bobcats are looking for a replacement for Bickerstaff, who was the coach and general manager since the team started three years ago. Bickerstaff is now in the front office role and he is helping to conduct the search for a coach with the part owner Michael Jordan. Jordan has the final say in all matters related to basketball.

Though Bickerstaff

refused to divulge the names of other candidates, he did acknowledge that there were certain coaches Bobcats were interested in talking to but they were still playing in the playoffs.

One of these candidates might be Toronto’s Sam Mitchell. Mitchell is the NBA coach of the year and he is a close friend of Bickerstaff. He was hired as the first assistant coach in 2004 of the Bobcats only to be hired a month later by the Raptors. Mitchell is in the final year of his contract and Toronto’s general manager Bryan Colangelo has said that he would like to sign Mitchell on a new contract.
